The Big Buddha on Lantau Island

Hong Kong is a great city to enjoy on foot, provided me can put up with the heat, the crowds and dirty fumes from passing traffic. The so-called districts are actually more like neighborhoods, and if they’re just one or two stops away from each on the MTR line, sometimes you can save time just by walking.

Along the way from city center to outside green site, bring me to the outside of Hong Kong. A sunny day with blue sky. I am hear with a long line of people wait a cable car to Ngong Ping. The Long Cable car bring me from one sea to another forests, from forests to another village and from one mountain to mountain with really cold weather.

Once I get to Lantau Island, the beautiful scenery and famous historical sites are truly fascinating. There is a chain of mountains that stretches from the higher elevations in the west to the lower ridges in the east. The highest peak in the mountain range is Phoenix Mountain, standing 935 meters (102,2 yards) high. It is the second highest peak in all of Hong Kong.

The most popular attraction for tourists visiting Lantau Island is climbing Phoenix Mountain to view and admire the sunrise. Tourists often climb up at night, and reach the top before the daybreak. It’s steep in places so tourists should be well prepared before setting out. Bring a flashlight.

Throughout Lantau Island, I can see Tian Tan Buddha which is considered to be the biggest seated Buddha in the world. Moreover, it’s one of the five largest Buddha statues in China, it’s 34 metres tall, weighs 250 tons and it’s made of bronze. That’s impressive you must admit that!

Nearby the big Buddha, The Po Lin Monastery is located in Ngong Ping.

Besides as the must-go destination for prayers, Po Lin Monastery is also a top destination for tourists to experience the natural and cultural side of Hong Kong. Originally, the Buddhist monastery was built by three monks andwas initially called Da Maopeng. In 1924, however, it was renamed Po Lin Monastery. About 70 years later, the Po Lin Monastery has become one ofthe most renowned and most popular tourist destinations in Hong Kong. Over the years, more structures have been added, such as the big temple  and the world’s largest Big Buddha. Also, it is situated on a mountainous area of Lantau Island. As such it becomes one of the top must-go destinations for visitors to Hong Kong.
